re: Have Spacesuit, Will Travel

I went to Seattle with a few of my favorite travel companions a few weeks back, and never got around to posting about the fun.

One thing I had avoided in past trips to Seattle was the Experience Music Project, because everyone said that the building made the place look like it was going to be way cooler than it actually is. (They are right). BUT. Entrance to the Science Fiction Museum was included in our admission price, and THAT place was pretty cool.

If there is one thing that I always notice, it is Fashion. Space Fashion is no exception. I just want to point out one thing that I noticed...

First, look at all these manly man space suits that the men-folk get to wear while traversing the cosmos:

And then, please note what the women of the space museum get to wear:

It seems that when going to outer space, men get to wear protective head gear and suits that make their muscles look bigger than they are, while the women get to wear clothing more appropriate for a disco party on the beach. Perhaps that makes us the stronger sex? You men need oxygen chambers around your heads to keep you safe and all we need is a properly placed pleat on a skirt that shows off most of our legs?

(Sidenote - if this is true, do you think that all the olympic figure skaters realize that they are actually wearing SPACESUITS on the ICE?)

All I know is that it looks like the original Captain Kirk didn't get the memo - in the future, only sissies wear glittery rickrack.
